There are audiophiles and there are audiophiles of many kinds.
One of the modern day of internet, found only in the audio
circles are the 'audio terrorists'!!! The kind that is utterly
unhappy about what is written except maybe the sort of writings
that he/she tended to write or want to be able to endorse, to
be allowable to the audio public for reading. The vigilante who
goes around reading the various blogs to check out and weed
out those he/she deemed who do not conform to their way of
thinking and verbal expression.
1st these audio terrorists will when first appearing at a blog
will at the very start, antagonize the writer/ blog owner while
at the same time wish to get information useful to himself only.
That's the sign number 1. Whether this being a personal attack
on the writer is yet another issue, someone the writer knows
and that they have never agree on many issues. A audio
terrorist who is vindictive and has a long memory of past
unpleasant events. A person who is badly hurt perhaps and
can't let bygones be bygones. On the other hand if it's not
a personal attack but one out of habitual/obsessive impulses,
then I recalled psychiatrist called a manifestation of a troubled
childhood, one of a failed sex life or an inability of a shared
married life.
2nd, sign number 2, they usually are not able to relate themselves
to the topic writer, being unable to communicate their intent(s)
and purpose, they tended to show some sort of aggression in
their line of questionings and think that anyone they encounter
on the 'net owes them a favor/an answer/an explanation/a
greeting. Never thought that they have to be nice to others
to be able to receive the same treatments.
3rd the audio terrorist take it upon themselves to be the
vigilante to 'clean up' the seemingly mess he thinks has being
around long enough. Anyone else who gets in their way will
also be brutally 'mulled' down. It will be always their world
with the exclusion of all others they don't like. Sort of the
pond is not big enough for all fishes!
If these sort of repeated attacks keep appearing on blogs,
and seeming from the same persons, then it only go to show
there is harboring of deep hatreds and if built up over a
period will tended to hurt the audio terrorist psychologically
more than the readers of the blog who would usually enjoy
a good fight if there is one, if not amusing and entertaining
at times. At the most readers & writers alike will just disregard
and ignore the comments of the audio terrorist, with absolutely
no feeling whatsoever.
Here is another disadvantage, a non benefit faced by the
audio terrorist is that, even if he/she stops momentarily
or absent from the blog for even a short while, and if
another different audio terrorist comes into the scene
and does almost similar misdeed or mischief, readers of
the blog would just simply 'lump up' all the uncalled for
events and placed it into the 1st terrorist 'account'.....
...and anymore audio terrorist attacks forthcoming too
get dedited into that account. So the 1st terrorist will
be 'surfing around' the internet with a couple of knives
on his back without him even knowing about it. And if
he really does appear again, some readers will just give
him a piece of their mind out of disgust.
So it does not pay to be a 'audio terrorist'! Do consider
how much psychological damages the audio terrorist
would have sustained over the period he/she terrorizes
the blog! The rest of the readers, writers and blog owners
included just sit back and enjoy the fiasco, especially
when blog master do not intend on strict censorship.
I believe most blogger here are dedicated to hifi for enough of time and they know what they are talking here.
ReplyDeleteNo point to attack others anonymously, if you think you are better why not write up another blog at your own and share ideas with everyone.
Agreed with with albertwui
ReplyDeleteMr. albertwui/Hasegawa,
ReplyDeleteThis type of 3year boy hit someone's head, run and hide in the bush, closed his mouth with his hand laughing, enjoy seeing other suffering the pain and strick again when time is right.
Those were my good old yesteryear stories.
Eventually, kena fcuk by the victim's parents, and shower with Mo Ka Kau (try to read in Cantonese).
Don't get hurt as this "Mo Ka Kau" is a type nice flower only found in small village near the hill side.
Very good write up which I think should be linked to/shared with other blogsites (at least to ones known to be owned by friends). Inevitably blog terrorism could be happening here and there. The write up may not be preventive neither pre-emptive in nature thus terrorism may just recur and get out of hands.
ReplyDeleteJust keep telling terrorists off!

Dear Unker Vic.
First of all, thanks for your introduction to all of us about Mr Koo single sub (2.1) system. Based on your writings (Part I & Part II), I believe it should be a very good sound system.
Since Mr Koo may be a low profile audiophile, we may lost the chance to get know to his well-tuned system if without your writing.
Due to your high reputation among KL audiophiles, I learned to know that you are a very experienced and respected audiophile in Malaysia. I should say you are an expert or master in multi subs (2.x) audio system among Malaysia audiophiles.
I am glad to have a chance to learn something from you after reading your writing.
1) Since Unker Vic and Mr Koo both are using sub(s) in the audio system and some more Unker Vic is so familiar with Mr Koo's system. Let's take Unker Vic's system as reference, may I know how Mr Koo's system sounds compare to yours? What is his system strong points and weaknesses compare to your multi subs system?
2) Based on what I know, for more than 2 subs system, the connection/tuning/measurement could be very critical and complicated. Below are my few questions about number of subs used, the way of connection and how we deal with each subs' phase shift:
a) Sub quantity: According to your know how, how many subs are needed or best for a 2 channels stereo audio system? Is there any theory background behind? What are the limitations/constraints for single sub and stereo subs?
b) Connection: How do you connect all your subs?
- Is it your CDP has multi outputs? In this case, how you control the subs' volume?
- Is it your integrated/pre amp has multi pre-outputs? Normally hard to find CDP/pre/integrated amp come with more than 2 pre-outputs.
- Is it you connect all your subs parallel with your stereo speakers? In this case, do you consider the speaker/subs loading effect to your amp? The more subs you parallel with your speaker, the lower the speaker/subs impedance. As a result the speaker impedance will be shifted and the sound characteristic will change.
c) Phase shift/delay: All subs you used are same brand and same model? How you manage the phase shift created by each subs in your room? How you make sure all subs are in phase? By any measurement?
As we know, any signal pass through an amplifier circuit and speaker driver, the output signal will not be in phase with the input signal.
The phase shift will be even more trouble when all your subs are not from the same brand and models.
Some more, the placement of the subs and the room acoustic will create some more phase shift.
How do you consider/manage with all these phase shifts?

3) Is Marantz CD63 and Philips CD 160 using the time tested CDM Pro 2 mechanism? Or is just old CDM2? I am not trying to offence you but just to clarify the fact. It is good for you to make some correction if there are some misleading information in your writing.
4) I am very interested and respect on your ferrite clock design which could remove some power supply harmonic noises. May I know how it functions? What is the concept or principle? I know it may involve some confidential information or know how, so very brief explanation will do.
You may not answer my questions due to I post my comments with anonymous. So, I would like to introduce myself, I am Keith from Johor but most of the time I am in Sg.
Hope to get your reply soon.
1st, there were no mention of sound quality(SQ) just a write up, which is not exactly a equipment review of Koo's setup. There are some audiophiles better known in audio circles who has listened to Koo's setup, typically the Qi cone designer and his partners from Singapore. The Blog writers from other blogs in Malaysia. Tho they have not done a write up on his system. The conclusions I gathered were they enjoyed their visits, and know that different persons have different preferences and listen very differently. I'm with them too, that a write up is possible but not a review with a mention of SQ as it's so subjective and unlike a mention about 'sound signature' of equipment reviews of the same brands.
ReplyDeleteNotice I was silent on the issue of SQ and merely mentioned that the owner enjoys his music with this setups and his friends shared the joy of listening too. It's is common for fellow audiophiles to come together if they share a similar preference in sound reproduction, group together to have gatherings at tea, or meals and to visit other audiophiles together. At the same time the group may avoid visiting other audiophiles of different preferences from theirs, at least not visit a 2nd time after they had their 1st visit.
Will check with Koo on the CDP as to the designated transport mechanism and if any modifications i may not know about. Koo has compared the Philips & Marantz cdp side by side, and there was a preference not that 1 is better than the other, so a choice has to be made as to which is going to be the resident CDP/CDT of the system. Tho I recalled he has a few more CDP as stand by stacked up somewhere in the house.
As to the question of the ferrite clock mechanisn and working, I'm afraid I can't disclosed freely, tho I have some discussions of its working with a singapore audiophile maverick Mr.Yip some time ago. Because the working of which defies present day explanations with the knowledge available to us. So far as I know it, only 2 other persons in the electronic hardware biz, have worked on this, and a chip based circuit has being researched thus, but to date too expensive to market.
I have used a similarly related circuitry that will help control the subwoofer system, with all the phase and other sound pressure problems associated with low bass content reproductions. So I can understand your strong believe that sub for that matter subs are very hard to take control of. Several persons have listened where I let them listened with the circuits switched on and off for them to perceived the 1 instance without the phase and spl problems and then with all the problems present as will happen in any multi sub systems they have come across; and they have come across several setups of multi subs.
Thank you for your interest and reply to this blog. Hope no hard feelings from u. Do come by whenever u are in KL.
It would help dispel any doubts about the advantages of using subwoofer(1 unit), if some readers who are interested to visit Koo, get in touch with me at unclevicmy@yahoo.com Koo stays in Kuala Lumpur. If He is easy to take in visitors he may oblige with some instigations or some nice words from me, depending on whichever works at the time. ;-p
ReplyDeleteHi, Keith.
ReplyDeleteHow do you think about the reply? Get what you want?
The reply is almost equal to no reply yo. Not talk about SQ, cannot talk about ferrite cock, cannot talk about sub circuits..... don't need to ask and only need to believe his system sound is so good yo.
This is typical reply from the unker with a troubled childhood, a failed sex life (for sure impotence with his age) and an inability of a shared married life old man yo.
My poor Unker Vic....
Hi,Mr MugenFoo,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you show your Quali here, keep up with your good job.
Typical.
